Navy Increases Shipping Bonus
Today, Navy Recruiting Command released another Enlistment Bonus (EB) message for Fiscal Year 2022. The new EB guidance, effective tomorrow April 5, 2022, is the tenth one so far this fiscal year, and by far the most generous. It replaces the guidance released March 16th (eff. March 17th).
Today's update removes the Enlistment Bonus High School (EBHS) while extending the Enlistment Bonus for Shipping (EBSHP) to include the months of April, May, and June 2022. The MINIMUM enlistment bonus a person would receive who meet the requirements of the release is $25,000. Yes, I said $25,000, and it is payable once you graduate boot-camp.
The total enlistment bonus one can receive in combination remains $50,000. For example, if a person joined the Navy tomorrow in the Navy nuclear power program (Nuke) and shipped to boot-camp in the month of June 2022, they would be entitled to Enlistment Bonus for Source Rate (EBSR) AND Enlistment Bonus for Shipping (EBSHP). The EBSR amount for Nuke is currently $38,000, and the EBSHP (must ship in April, May or June 2022) for Nuke is $30,000. The total amount authorized for payment would be $50,000 -- not $68,000. Hope that makes sense.

- Reclassifications: If the Future Sailor reclassifies into one of the specified ratings listed at $30,000 or $35,000 in the specific shipping month(s) listed, they are eligible.
- Roll ins: If a Future Sailor is scheduled to ship in one of the specified ratings eligible to earn $30,000 or $35,000 EBSHP but have a shipping date of July or later, they must roll into April through June to be eligible for the $30,000 or $35,000.
Enlistment Bonus for Shipping (Reserve)
New Accession Training (NAT) is designed to reduce critical Navy Reserve Selected Reserve (SELRES) manning shortfalls. NAT is not an authorized enlistment option for prior service veterans or members of any RC. The only exception is for applicants that have served in the armed forces, but were released from such service before completing the basic training requirements of the armed force of which the person was a member and their service was characterized as either honorable or uncharacterized. Enlistment in the NAT program is for a period of eight years with six years in SELRES status and the final two years in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). See your local recruiter for more details about the New Accession Training Program!
The Full Time Support (FTS) Program are members of the Navy Reserve who serve in a full time capacity with the responsibility to train and administer the Navy Reserve. Enlisted FTS personnel serve in many diverse and demanding billets both on ship and ashore.

Reserve EBSHP Notes:
- Note 1: Eligibility for EBSHP only exists while the Future Sailor is in Delayed Entry Program. EBSHP is earned and payable upon graduation of Recruit Training Command and may not be recouped due to reclassification or separation.
- Note 2: Newly contracted Reserve applicants as well as Reserve Future Sailors currently scheduled to ship in July--September who reclassify or roll into the shipping months of April through June are eligible for the Reserve bonuses(s) listed above. Future Sailors scheduled to ship April through June on the effective date of this message are not eligible for
the EBSHP (prior EBSHP contracts remain effective). The only exceptions are the following:
- Reclassifications: If the Future Sailor reclassifies into one of the specified ratings listed at $4,000 in the specific shipping month(s) listed, they are eligible.
- Roll ins: If a Future Sailor is scheduled to ship in one of the specified Reserve ratings eligible to earn $4,000 EBSHP but have a shipping date of July or later, they must roll into April through June to be eligible for the $4,000.
Prior Service members, either Navy or Other Services, re-enlisting into active duty are eligible for bonuses. They must enter active duty in pay grade E-4 or below, meet specific bonus eligibility and did not receive a bonus in their first enlistment.
With the allowances (if eligible -- BAH, BAS, FSA, etc.), military base pay, billet pay (Navy Sea Pay, Sub Pay, Hazardous Duty, Flight Pay, etc.), 30 days leave, Tuition Assistance, medical and dental benefits for the entire family, etc., your first few years of service could net a greater level of compensation never before experienced for those serving. This should be at least enough incentive to call your local recruiter for more information!
