Future Sailor Preparatory Course-Academic
The Future Sailor Prep Course–Academic (FSPC-A) delivers focused academic skill training which allows Future Sailors (FS) to improve their scores attained through their pre-service participation in the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The academic skill training is only available to those who scored from a 10 to 30QT on their pre-contracted ASVAB.
Improvement in the Armed Forces Qualifying Test score to a 31QT or higher expands opportunity for the Future Sailor to qualify for critical ratings by improving their ASVAB line-scores. Improving one's score may also qualify one for an enlistment bonus!
An academic training cycle is three weeks in duration and takes place at Navy Recruit Training Command (watch the video at the end of the article). Minimum graduation requirements include scoring a 31QT or higher or at least a 10 point gain to the ASVAB score.
- Students who do not achieve a 31QT or a ten point AFQT improvement will be set back to the next convening of a FSPC-A training cycle.
- If a student fails to achieve at least a 31QT or a ten point AFQT improvement after a third or subsequent attempt, the Commanding Officer of Recruit Training Command will assess their motivation and fitness for continued service and may permit additional FSPC-A curriculum cycles or may chose to discharge the Future Sailor.
- Students failing to achieve at least a 31QT or a ten point AFQT improvement by the 180th day of service will be separated per Section 546, "Future Servicemember Preparatory Course", of the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2024.
Reclassification
FSPC-A graduates may choose to retain their contracted rating, but graduates will be given an opportunity to reclassify into a rating or program more aligned with their ability and desires.
