Military Pay Chart 1998

1998 US Military Basic Pay Charts

On December 31, 1997, President William J. Clinton signed Executive Order 13071 that implemented Public Law 105-85, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998, which provided for 2.8% increase in the rates of basic pay and basic allowance for subsistence. The law also increased the monthly family separation allowance (FSA) from from $75 to $100.

Public Law 105-85 also consolidated and revised generally Federal provisions concerning the basic allowance for quarters (BAQ), the variable housing allowance (VHA), and overseas housing allowances to a single basic allowance for housing (BAH).

The Navy active duty end-strength total, officer and enlisted, for 1998 was 382,338.

The United States military pay scales became effective on January 1, 1998 and continued to be in effect until December 31, 1998. It is the basic pay amounts for the active components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard.

The pay rates are monthly, US dollar.

NOTE 1. The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy's basic pay is $4346.40 regardless of cumulative years of service.

NOTE 2. The Chief of Naval Operations pay is $11,502.60, regardless of time in service, but basic pay is limited by the Level V of the Executive Schedule to $9,225.00.
