2008 Military Pay Charts

The pay tables below are based on a 3.5% pay raise. On November 13, 2007 the President signed into law a defense appropriations bill which authorized a 3.5% across the board pay raise to be included in the 2008 Defense Budget. The Presidents recent veto of the defense budget should only delay the raise - the 3.5% pay raise is supported by both the House and Senate, it is not the segment of concern in the budget. Discussions and plans imply all raises will be retroactive to January 1, 2008 regardless if final approval isn't even reached until February - March.

The charts are valid for active and reserve components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. Military pay is distributed on the 1st and 15th day of the month. The below rates reflect a monthly pay amount.

The military continues to have numerous pays which are not included in the tables below. They include Hazardous Duty, Sea Pay, Flight deck, Special Duty Pay (SDAP) and many others. You must be working in an available billet in the required field/location to draw additional pay status. "Pays" are taxable. The military also has various allowances such as Housing (BAH) and Cost of living (COLA). "Allowances" are NOT taxable.
